Cobus Potgieter Live #2

Easy Drumming That Sounds Hard

This is the second live lesson we filmed with Cobus Potgieter to announce The Cobus Method. The Cobus Method will teach you how to play drums by ear, just as Cobus has. With this video, you’ll get to know a little bit more about Cobus Potgieter and his career, as well as learn how to play some of his most popular drum beats and drum fills.

One of the drum fills Cobus teaches you how to play is based on his favorite linear pattern – linear patterns played as drum fills are also known as hand-to-feet combinations. If you’re interested in learning more of these patterns, check the free drum lesson “Beginner 16th Note Linear Drum Fills“. We also advise you to check the free drum lesson “Heel-Toe Technique” to get step-by-step instruction on how to perform it. This is a technique Cobus talks about during the lesson, and one which he really likes to use for playing fast runs on his double bass pedal.

This live drum lesson took place just after Cobus had finished recording the last lessons for The Cobus Method. This was the second of two live lessons shot that day. You can watch the first live lesson by clicking here.

To watch the live lesson in it’s entirety simply click on the play button. The live lesson is split up into four 15 minute sections, once you reach the end of a section the next section will automatically load and begin to play. If you would like to skip ahead to a different section, go to the bottom right-hand side corner of the video player and click on this icon . A list of the four videos will appear, enabling you to select which part of the lesson you would like to jump ahead to.

If you’d like to get more free drum lessons from Cobus Potgieter, check the free drum lessons “Double Stroke Sweep” and “The Herta Sweep“. These free drum lessons focus on concepts that you can use for spicing up your drum fills and showmanship abilities. If you’re more interested in watching Cobus play his drum set, check this video for some intense and creative drum soloing.
