In this video, Dave Atkinson jams along to “It’s About Something” from YUCA‘s 2007 self-titled debut album. This rock drum play-along is a great place for you to practice all kinds of rock drum beats and drum fills. This free drum play-along comes with two MP3s that you can download and use to play along or study with – one with the drum tracks removed and an alternate version with a metronome added in.
YUCA is an alternative rock band that hails from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Since Dave is the drummer for this band, watching him playing along this tune will give you an exact idea of its structure and feel. Once you’ve watched the video, take the MP3s to your drum set and see what you can come up with. If you’re a beginner drummer start by jamming along to the version with a metronome added in. This will help you keep basic time while learning how to play along to this song. When you’re able to keep a steady tempo, you can start jamming along to the version that doesn’t include a metronome.
If you don’t know what drum beats and drum fills to play, take some of the ideas Dave Atkinson demonstrates in this video just so you can get started. You can also check the free drum lessons on rock drumming that we have here on DrumLessons.com to learn how to play some rock-based drum beats and drum fills. If you’d like to play-along more of YUCA’s songs check the rock drum play-along for the song “Anthem“.
What if we told you this drum play-along can be used to improve your internal clock; hand, foot and showmanship techniques; odd-time drumming, beats and fills? Intrigued?! Watch the free drum lesson “Practicing With Play-Alongs” to learn more about this.

Hi guys @FDL,
Could you also upload a version with (actual)drums on here. I got the song at iTunes but this one is a lot better. Not only for practice but it also sounds better. It’s the only thing i miss here at FDL, caus a rip from a youtube video also isn’t possible.
maybe it’s beacuse i heard this version as first but i like this better than the original track..but nevertheless i tried both to recreate 🙂
your band rocks
Dave, this is great, but I really like the original drum track better where you play the snare on 1 and 3. I absolutely love that we get the best YUCA song as a play along track without click track. I will do a cover on youtube, thats for sure.
I Was wondering what drum head Dave is using on the snare? cause its a clear (which is rear to have on snares, maybe just in acrylic set)
YUCA is edible….
