In this video, Dave Atkinson jams along to “Calling” a song from Dying Hearts Desire, a modern Christian rock group that he was a member of. This rock drum play-along is a great place for you to practice all kinds of double bass patterns, tom-tom drum beats, hand-to-feet combos, and rock drum beats and fills. This free drum play-along comes with two MP3s that you can download and use to play along or study with – one with the drum tracks removed and an alternate version with a metronome added in.
Start by watching Dave jam along to this rock drum play-along so you can have an overall idea of the drum play-along’s structure and feel. Once you’ve watched the video, take the MP3s to your drum set and see what you can come up with. If you’re a beginner drummer, start by jamming along to the version with a metronome added in. This will help you keep basic time while learning how to play along to this song. When you’re able to keep a steady tempo, you can start jamming along to the version that doesn’t include a metronome.
If you don’t know what drum beats and drum fills to play, take some of the ideas Dave Atkinson demonstrates in this video just so you can get started. You can also check the free drum lessons on rock drumming that we have here on DrumLessons.com to learn how to play some rock based drum beats and fills. The free drum lessons “Beginner Double Bass Fills” and “Double Bass Drum Beats” are definitely lessons you should watch if you’re interested in playing some double bass patterns along with this awesome song.
What if we told you this drum play-along can be used to improve your internal clock; hand, foot and showmanship techniques; odd-time drumming, beats and fills? Intrigued?! Watch the free drum lesson “Practicing With Play-Alongs” to learn more about this.

The without click mp3 is giving an access denied error trying to download it.
Sorry, it’s fixed now!
The “w/o click” link should be

Hey Dave!!! Nice song!!!
Question, why is your Hi Hat stand moving so much, stomping?
What do think of playing heel down on the hi-hat?
That drum kit made me cry. Nice cover though.
Now this is pretty cool
Great drumming, and I love the song itself. Is there anywhere to download this song with the drumming included. Not just the play along but the song itself? I spend alot of time driving so my steering wheel, dashboard, and floorboard double as a drumset.
I love the set!
