My favorite rudiments are the paradiddles. Today we are going to talk about the most simple of the paradiddles, the single paradiddle. You can hear the pattern by pronouncing the name of the rudiment: paradiddle. The 'diddle' part is a double. The pattern goes right, left, right double, then alternates, left, right, left double. The important thing when learning the paradiddles is to insure that the four notes are evenly spaced. Don't let yourself play the double faster than the two singles. Practice with a metronome and start slowly.
Examples 1 and 2 give you some practice time alone with the rudiment before examples 3 and 4 add in a drum beat leading in to the rudiment.
