The songo is a lot of fun to play around the drum set. This rhythm, which is afro-cuban based was actually designed to be played on a drum set. Meaning that most of the rhythms we've been talking about have come from percussion parts. They've all been molded into one, to be brought to the drum sets.
In the songo exercises, you'll see that I broke down this beat into two bars using quarter notes and eighth notes. As we're developing this, it becomes a practice in linear form. What I mean by that is that no two limbs, line up. For this lesson, practice the parts as they are shown, individually. We have a play-a-long that will allow you to combine some of them and put them into practical use.
