Let's begin developing some snare drum comping exercises. All of the exercises are written using quarter notes, or swing eighth notes. If you don't know what eighth note swing notes are, it's the first and the last triplet of each group.
The first three exercises use quarter notes. The rest of them use the swinging eighth notes mentioned above. They are notated like regular eighth notes, but don't forget to play them with the swing feel. It will be a bit easier f you play the cymbals with the jazz feel as I do in the video. The feel of the cymbals will guide the feel of the snare.
