Learn How To Play Sixteenth Note Triplet Drum Fills!

Now we are going to play some 16th note triplets. Obviously, all of the same principles apply. There is no new theory in this lesson, just a few interesting fills to learn and a new timing. Because the notes played are 16th notes, they are played twice as fast as before. It is important to start these off slower, and build up to full speed. Also, avoid the trap of speeding up the tempo when the fill start. Playing with a metronome is vital when doing exercises that switch from 8th note timing to 16th note timing.

Fill 1 uses only the snare drum, to get you used to the timing.

Fills 2 and 3 change the drums up a little bit, playing a full beat on each drum before switching to the next.

Fills 4 and 5 add a little more variety by breaking up the beats further and switching drums more often.
