Learn How To Play Punk Rock On The Drums!
Welcome to the punk rock section. Punk rock began in the late 60s and carried on into the 70s. It is still popular today. Bands like the Descendants, Black Flag, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols popularized the style. Drummers like Bill Stevenson were influential early on, and today drummers like Tre Cool and Travis Barker really make the music what it is. Let's start with the beginners section, where we have provided ten beats. In the video, I demonstrate them slowly at first, and then speed them up.
Examples 1 and 2 are the same, except example 2 uses open hi-hats. This is a simple rock beat that you are probably already familiar with.
Example 3 features broken eighth notes for the hi-hat
Examples 4 and 5 are also very similar, the only difference being the snare hit at the end of example 5.
Examples 6 and 7 through in some toms to the mix.
Examples 8 and 9 make use of some ghost notes.
Example 10 goes back to a more basic rock drum pattern.
