Jazz Drum Play-Along With Downloadable MP3!
This jazz play-a-long will help you familiarize yourself to 5/4 time. Most of the song is fairly simple, consisting of the same basic beat for most of the song. You can decide for yourself when to switch from the ride to the crash cymbal or add in some extra comping to vary up the song a bit.
Things do get interesting at the end of the song, and will test your grasp of the odd time signature. That is when the drum gets a 58 bar solo. Do what you would like during this part. Let your creativity run wild, but remember to keep the song in 5/4 time. Don't let yourself revert back to 4/4 in the heat of the moment.
Since this is mostly a one beat song, it shouldn't take much practice before you are ready to fire up the mp3 and jam with the band. As always, have fun with it.
