Now that you've mastered the beginner drum fills, let's move on to some intermediate fills. These fills are going to change the note values up a little bit. We'll throw in some sixteenth notes and sixteenth note triplets, and in general just make them sound more interesting. Since these fills are more complex than what you have been used to, start good and slow and then build up your speed. You will be amazed at how these things sound around the drum set.
Exercises 1 and 2 start off with some sixteenth notes and sixteenth note triplets used sparingly to get you used to the new speed and complexity.
Exercise 3 picks things up with more of the faster notes and moves around the drum set a little more.
Exercise 4 opens with a long half bar snare roll.
Exercise 5 really picks up the pace. It features thirty-seondth notes leading into a sixteenth note triplet and finishes with sixteenth notes.
