Let's take a look at the hard rock intermediate section. We are riding on the crash cymbal, really hitting it hard. We want to make the beats slam and sound powerful. You'll notice come broken up sixteenth notes and some tom beats with snare rolls thrown in.

Examples 1 to 3 start off with bass a snare drum patterns utilizing broken up sixteenth notes over top of eighth note hi-hats.

Examples 4 and 5 open up the hi-hats and continue with more broken up sixteenth notes on the bass and snares.

Examples 7 and 8 speed things up a bit by playing more sixteenth notes.

Examples 9 and 10 introduce some tom beats into the mix.
