Now let's break away from the beats we've been learning and try our hand at fills. A fill is a way to break away from a pattern and really do something creative. Look at the half bar fills page in your book. You'll notice that it has a bar, then a half of a bar, and on the 3rd beat of that second bar is where the fill starts. The fills are eighth notes, so you'll be counting 'three and four and'. Make sure that when you play it you go right, left, right, left.
Fill 1 is a simple fill that consists only of the snare drum.
Fill 2 breaks up the fill by adding in a second dru.
Fill 3 really gets things go with four drums.
Fills 4 and 5 are the make things interesting by varying the note values.
