Learn How To Use Bass Drum Comping In Your Jazz Drumming!

A comp is the music that you play while another instrument is soloing. Bass drum comping is great for lower instruments such as the bass or the trombone.

The cymbal hits aren't notated in the examples, however since they would be played in an actual comping session and they help in maintaining the swing feel of the eighth notes in jazz, it is a good idea to play them along with the examples.

There are twelve examples which will provide you with a good introduction to some various beats that may be used while comping for a soloing player.

We also offer bass drum lessons, bass drum tuning help, and bass drum doubles lessons!
