If you are ever playing in 3/4 or jazz waltz, you may notice a section of the music that says to play in 'one'. It is the same concept as a two feel in 4/4. What it means is that we are creating a more relaxed feel to the music. Most often, this is accomplished by the bass player. He will only play on beat one of the bar. In the play-alongs section, there is a great play-along that goes between normal feel and a one feel. The examples included with this lesson show some drum beats that work well in the one feel setting.
Examples 1 to 7 all feature the bass drum on the first beat of the bar.
Examples 8 to 10 are all hi-hat only grooves.
Example 11 is a two bar beat that returns to the bass drum at the start of the bar concept.
