  3. What Double Pedal is the smoothest

    20 May 2012 - 08:35 AM

    Hi,

Given the choices I selected I want to know which pedal is:

    1. The smoothest?

2.- Would you choose and why?

    3.-Sticks better to your foot?

Notice that as much as possible I want to separate these things from each other so take your time to answer.

    Thank You!
  4. 16TH Note triplets on the BD while playing 8th notes on cymbals

    15 May 2012 - 10:12 PM

Any tips for playing 16th note triplets on the bass drum while playing 8th notes on the Ride/HH. I seem to naturally swing the hands when the feet are playing 16th note triplets instead of playing straight notes. How do you counter that?

Any other tip other than the old start slow like your unconscious take care of it?

    Thank you!
  5. Fluidity on the drums

    15 May 2012 - 09:45 PM

    Hi,

what would you suggest to add fluidity to your playing when your drumkit consists of mesh head pads with foam inside them and all the toms, including the floor tom are 8" wide?

What I'm doing is taking the basic exercise from Tommy Igoe's Hands for a lifetime dvd to develop your singles and instead of doing them on a single pad I play them over my snare and 4 toms.

I really get in trouble when leading with the left hand at around 155 bpm, because reaching over to the floor tom isn't easy. It's a somewhat awkward exercise.

    Here are the exercises:
1:4/4 RRRRx2 - LLLLx2 ( one bar of 8ths with the right, one with the left)
    2: 3/4 RRRx2 - LLLx2 (same thing but in 3/4, meaning 6 strokes with each hand)
    3: 5/4 RRRRRx2 - LLLLLX2 (same thing with 10 strokes, in 5/4)
    4: 4/4 RRRR, LLLL(8th notes) - LRLRLRLRLRLRLRLR(16th notes) then LLLL,RRRR(8th notes) - RLRLRLRLRLRLRLRL(16th notes)

The one I have trouble with is the first part of exercise 4.I can play it completely relaxed at 175 bpm on the snare only while I use my DB pedal to play the bass drum with 8th notes. But spreading around the toms gives me unwanted rim hits or simply sloppy rolls in some cases. What is funny is that like at certain speeds. If I go a little faster or a little slower it works fine if I focus.

    Has anyone experienced that?
Any tips to make it less awkward?
