I agree about the whole causing pain thing, but Scotch really does know nothing about metal, or screaming and he really has no basis on which to say anything

And the whole chasing round the jungle thing really grated my nerves too. No respect.

Well, if you look at him like the old grandpa who's trying to help you but is a little sarcastic then you wouldn't have a problem. My point was that his base is his common sense, something that I consider a diminishing trait in modern times (probably due to overuse of technology) and with that he's making a good point. I had to learn by the philosophy that even when someone throws shit at your face there's always some gold hidden in there. If you can look beyond the shit you accomplish two things:

1.-Listen to their feedback.
2.-Not giving the other person any ammo in order for them to upset you.

In all honesty things are always interpreted and they being shit are always in the eye of the beholder. For me, things that used to be offensive in the past are less and less offensive and as I apply this philosophy I learn more and more.

Never heard the term "easily offended"? Does that strike you as a confident or less confident man?

I'm not that easily offended actually, that whole lack of basic respect is one of the only things that will always get me

On bones of democracy they yearn to gnaw
Every morsel of fact washed away in the flood
Of innocent tears and innocent blood

Please discuss the topic subject - not each other. I don't want to have to begin closing threads but there has been way too much of this kind of thing of late.

I may look into trying to buy the melissa cross dvd. All my favorite metalcore band singers learned personally from her, and if it doesn't teach me about growling, it'll still teach me to be a better singer. There's a benefit either way. :D

The Lesson: Don't believe everything you hear from somebody, especially when their conduct disproves it.

"Scotch, you have proven time and time again you know nothing about metal and that you have no interest in even trying to learn. No need to come in here and do it again"

Music is music. There isn't anything "special" about metal, beside the point that it's played fast a lot of the time and the lyrics, for the most part, are hard, if not impossible to understand. In reality, there are more than a handful of "metal" songs that music wise, I like. The musicianship in a lot of it is exceptional. What turns me off is not being able to understand any of what the singer is singing.

If you spent decades listening to singing, you would understand where I'm coming from. Singing is singing, and screaming belongs in horror movies.

I should have put a smiley face after the jungle crack. It was done in jest after reading people posting about having to learn to grunt and growl.

Last, respect is earned. It is not owed to anybody.

There are very few metal vocalists I can't understand. It's something you pick up, much like listening to the layers in some jazz. You don't get it at first, then it makes sense.

And while respect may not be owed to anybody, disrespecting them from the off is hardly the best way to try and earn it yourself.

how to become a famous singer

Millions of people believe they have what it takes to become a famous singer. For you to break through, you will need more than just talent. You will need patience, dedication and perhaps even a little luck. Give yourself a chance by taking the right steps to get ahead.

1. Try out for "American Idol"
This may be the long shot, but others have tried and succeeded, so why not you? Find out when the show is going on the road to audition talent, and arrive plenty early.

2. Try a Talent Agency
Seek out talent agencies or a singing agent, and find out which ones are willing to take a look at new talent. Talent Box provides an online resource with a wide variety of agents seeking musically qualified new artists.

3.Try acting and singing
Try acting and singing in new media formats, such as Youtube. To stand out, you must be creative in these videos. Get friends together to create a web series to showcase your talent

4. make sure you love singing and acting as an art form, and that you are not solely in it for the fame and money.

5. Take voice lessons. Lessons are great for novice singers to learn proper singing practices, as well as for experienced singers who wish to further develop their technique

Poco, you've made a lot of posts like this over the past few months. There seems to be a common denominator in all instances.

You don't always have to be screaming in metal to make it sound good (Unless it's Death Metal or something) but you can also, what I like to call, "Rough Sing". For example: Dave Mustaine from Megadeth. Listen to his "Rough Singing" in "In My Darkest Hour". It sounds good and he is not growling or really screaming.
I spread disease like a dog, discharge my payload, mile high rotten egg air of death, wrestles your nostrils... Lights of Polaris, the end doesn't scare us, when will they see, the war heads will all RUST IN PEACE!!!
