OK JARED I NEED YOU TO LISTEN TO ME HERE... HECK, IM GOING TO POST THIS AS MY OWN TOPIC. i know you haven't done alot of live lessons, but i would love to see one in collaboration with drum instructor Mike Johnston. Mike Johnston is a drum instructor from Sacramento. He is my favorite online instructor and with good reason. He's excellent at Linear Beats, Funk, Improv, and pretty much anything else you can think of. I recommend you go see his channel on Youtube or his website MIKESLESSONS.COM

He does alot of free clinics in the California area so he wouldn't mind doing a free clinic online, i guess :P. SInce he lives in North-Centrral Cali. I'm sure that traveling to Vancouver (i think thats where you guys are located) wouldnt be as hard as traveling from South Africa, like you did with Cobus. He has a really large drum community and it could be of great benefit if he promotes you guys with his lesson. Please check on it. I promise you guys will be JAW DROPPED when you see his INCREDIBLE ABILITY on the drums and his ability to easily explain stuff. I believe Cobus once gave him props for an online lesson once on facebook... PLEASE TRY......

While Jared hasn't recorded an updated lesson of different grips, the older one is still up:

I'm was thinking maybe a lesson on how to do quads. Going RLRL but alternating between the hands and feet, So RL on hands followed by RL on feet etc. (hope my description makes sense)

Lesson on how to arrange songs for live shows. I really struggle on "raising the bar". Always Snare fills, 16th note fill on beat 3 and 4,snare-hightom-floortom fill on beat 4, and triplets around the kit come into my head when improvising fills(even that very basic drum fill 16th note on beat 1-4 doesn't go into my head). I want to master things like for example, do 2 bar 16th/32nd note fill with rests before chorus, fill on beat 2 etc but I keep forgetting these stuff when I'm sitting on the drums. I want to improvise like this but i don't know where in the song and when should I do it?:

(I really like how session drummers play live such as Omar Tavarez of Pitbull - search Pitbull live on Youtube) and this:( I only listen to this version of the song because of the drummer XD)

I know they apply Gospel Drumming and I want to learn proper Gospel chops =)

Hi Everyone!
Honestly I didn't read through the six pages of posts so I don't know if this has already been suggested. But it has become apparent from seeing posts from beginners that there is some confusion about drumming terminology. Is there anyway that a Glossary of Terms could be added to the site?

EDIT: Nevermind I found a link that Poco put up from FDL ~ My link

I was wondering if you guys could do traditional grip stuff. I know a lot of the stuff can be applied to either grip but somethings are a lot different when you play match than traditional. I just want a lesson or a little segment about traditional grip.

I haven't seen anything DIRECTLY related to independence and coordination? When it's that coming up?

Thanks.

I can read OK, but tabbing and playing by ear would be an awesome addition for me. IDK if it can be taught. I must be a 'tard. I can never seem to pick up what is being played. Was that an open hi hat or a crash? Was it a rack tom or floor tom? What's the kick drum doing (it often seems masked by the bass line)? For me its like a foreign language. I can read Spanish pretty well. Write it? No way in hell.

Do you remember the Cajones thing? It's funny we both chose 4 way independence.

i think you should add a section on to the website with the sheet music to popular songs and have an instructor do lessons on some of the complicated fills or beats of those songs also an independance lesson (independance with feet and hands etc.) That would be a great deal of help!

Hey Jared, why not make a contest on who can use the most rudiments in one video on the snare or practice pad.

Like either going down the list or randomizing it.

Or make us guess which rudiments are which and make that a contest on who gets the most right.

And guess what the prize could be?? lol, Drum sticks yay!! Kidding the Drum Rudiment System duh!!

Just an idea, what do you guys think?

If any of these have already been mentioned or covered in lessons (I don't think so, but maybe in Drumeo, which I haven't yet paid for). I think some popular lessons would be:

Drumstick Tricks (Spins, Flips, And Throws)

Different Tip Types (as well as materials), and How They Change Your Sound

Different Snare Sounds (Rimshots, ghostnotes, crossticks, etc.)

Beats Using Unusual Drums (Such as Octobans and Roto Toms)

Hybrid Rudiments (ie: Ghost Flam, Cheese Pada-Flafla)

How To Prepare For A Gig

How To Recover From Things like a missed note, or a dropped stick

MORE COWBELL!

How tambourines, chimes, woodblocks, and even gongs can be applied to drumming

Redo The "Drum Lesson From a Guitarist" (Maybe it's just me but when I click the lesson I get redirected to the main page)

2/2 Beats and Fills

Really Odd Time (I once saw 5/11 and 3/5 in a book I once had. Jared, please try and explain these, haha.)

Finger strength

Different grips (Traditional, Matched, German, French, Ancient, etc.)

And especially, Reviews, which might even need a new heading in the lesson section.

I think lessons that involve things related to drumming, but not too directly (grips, tricks, recovery) could attract many more viewers. To make a long list short, have more lessons involving a more general, auxillary look. I'm done.
