We could do a lesson on reading and writing online drum tabs, or some more odd time stuff.

Sight reading could be a usefull lesson. I also think a lesson with pointers on tabing/playing by ear would be a popular lesson.

Hey Jared, can you re-enact one of Travis Barker's remixes as one of your drum solos? He's playing the drums to Soulja Boy's "Crank Dat".

Anything helping build 4 way independence would be huge with me.

Ei Jared

This idea of yours propelled me to register in the forum. So this is my first post.

Let me just start by saying a big thank you for this website. I have said this to you via e-mail, but i will say it again, it was with you guys that i started to to play drums and to read drum notation, which nowadays I'm very comfortable with, not just at reading, but at righting as well. I can not thank you enough . This site is just pure awesomeness.

As for your proposal, I have some ideas for drum lessons.

The first one would be about hi-hat foot splash. You could do some beats with it or teaching some exercises and giving us some tips for us to become more comfortable with it.

Another idea that I have for a drum lesson would be about closed rolls and drags. I can't find enough information on the internet that shows us how to do them, they just show them. So it would be cool to see how to hold the drum sticks, what technique to use, how many strokes per hand...etc.

How about some hip-hop drum lessons? Drum n' bass? Reggae? :)

Well I think that is all....FOR NOW!!! MUAHAHAHA :]

hope everything's cool with ya!

peace bro

Admin correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's covered in the moeller(spelling?) Method Dvd pack.

Btw just a lil tip no need to quote yourself to add to your post just click edit and your good to go ;)

There are certain techniques I'd love to see deconstructed. For example, Bonham's Purdy shufflesque technique on "Fool in the Rain." Also, the multiple timings (for lack of a better term) that Mark Brzezicki uses in Big Country songs like "East of Eden" and "Tall Ships Go."
I've never been interested in stealing another drummer's chops, but it's always cool to understand how and why a drummer does something interesting.

Yup, you're right, just read the Moeller method DVD overview, and it reads:

Quote

# A detailed break-down of the Finger Control Technique, what grip works best, and exactly how to perform it for maximum speed (includes two excellent exercises for developing the method while you watch TV or relax on the couch). Also covers tips for conserving energy, and improving overall control. This method is an absolute must for speed drumming!

# Applications for using the Finger Control Technique around the drum set (excellent for coming up with unique drum beat and fill ideas). Great for speed drumming and faster solos.

# Mike's blazing fast "Flurry Fills" based on Finger Control

Ahaha :] I forgot about the editing possibility.

Take care ;).

I like your ideia, especially the pointers about playing by ear. You got my vote ;).

I can read OK, but tabbing and playing by ear would be an awesome addition for me. IDK if it can be taught. I must be a 'tard. I can never seem to pick up what is being played. Was that an open hi hat or a crash? Was it a rack tom or floor tom? What's the kick drum doing (it often seems masked by the bass line)? For me its like a foreign language. I can read Spanish pretty well. Write it? No way in hell.

Some cool snare drum licks using all of the drum head, showing the different sounds you can get with rim shots etc.
I've been experimenting with this and find the sounds you can get out of the snare drum amazing.
If you can't whistle it, it ain't music.

Lol the only problems I have is the base drum and lining everything up. If I pay attention to the bass I lose track of when to hit something else. I agree it must be mostly self taught but anything can progress faster if given help by people that can already do it.

EDIT: and I forgot about those toms. They always get me ;)

I just wish there could be some kind of metronome control on the lessons so I could set it to snail pace then speed up when ready.
Find a lot of the lessons to fast for me.
