I've gotta have notation or tabs.

I'll usually learn a song by ear, but if there's to much going on in the song, i'll get the tabs or sheet music.

I learn as much as I can by ear, then I'll pick up a tab or sheet.

What I do is tab it out myself. By the time I'm finished I already know the song and the notation makes a good record for the future when I need to relearn it.

All of the above, although with a complex song I need notation or tabs, if I want to duplicate the original.

Since all the songs i play have no tabs for it. I play by ear and watch live versions of it to give me an idea what to hit LOL.

I love to learn by ear, but If I'm wanting to really get it down I need sheet music..Have not been able to learn tabs and apply them to the kit yet.

It's always been all "ear" for me. But now thanks to FDL, I'm learning to read (very slowly) what I've been (or should be) playing.

I usually jot a basic chart down by ear, then, once the band has decided whether we like it enough to put in the set, I'll put the time in to really learn it and nail the nuances.

I prefer to do it by ear. If there is a lot tunes to memorize I like to chart them out.

I usually do it by ear, but if I am really stuck or I'll watch others play.
I learn by hearing, seeing and doing.

Notations bother me.
