Would there be any way to move the post's I have already made regarding this fine system? Im sure this would help the other members as well. Of course I can always repost comments in each appropriate thread.

I don't mind if you copy paste..It's important that you do it though...otherwise it looks like I am posting all the feedback.

No problem. It's easier then re-typing everything. I wonder why Jared would be biased... :)

This was the first pack I bought, before I even really knew anything about the stuff here.

As a beginner, this pack is a true asset. It goes through multiple levels progressively and covers alot of ground. It really helped me get started. It was designed with simplicity in mind, but did not make me feel stupid.

I think with everything that that this book covers, even seasoned players can come back and get a refresher course.

Although I am still working on the intermediate book, and have not touched the play-alongs or the advanced book, I have read through them and I can't wait to get to it!

This too was my first system. Owning this, The Bass Drumming Secrets, The Moeller Method, the Latin Drumming System, and the Drum Rudiment System, I can say that I think this is the ideal system for anyone to start with. More than the others this takes you from begining to advanced. Jared does a fantastic job of describing the lessons. If you are a beginer especially I highly recomend picking up the Moeller Method supplement. The Moeller Method video covers the hand techniques that Jared leaves out. This helps immensly in moving towards achieving the higher speeds that are found in the intermediate and advanced books.

I agree with the above. This was my first set of lessons, and for drumming noobs, its a must have. 120 pages of exercises starting with reading notation and proper counting, all the way through odd time signatures and 32nd note fills - not to mention the play-along CD and DVD. Getting to hear and play everything at two tempos with the multi camera angles is great and helps learning a lot. There are a handful of resources I think every drummer should own. Things like JoJo Mayer's Secret Weapons For The Modern Drummer, Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials, George Stone's Stick Control, Ted Reed's Progressive Steps To Syncopation (For The Modern Drummer), and the Drummer's Bible. RDS joins in this group of classic reference materials. IMO, RDS sets the standard for DIY drum lessons.

Ok everyone, I'm looking for some advice. I have about $100 currently, and I'm not so sure what to do with it. I've been very interested in this system, it looks absolutely amazing, but my kit sounds like absolute crap. I still have not replaced the stock heads after a few months, and the cymbals it came with sound like trash. I don't know if I should buy the system or try and get my kit sounding a little bit better. I'm also going to be getting lessons soon (parents paying for it), so then would the RDS not be as valuable? It has obviously gotten great reviews, RRM is quality, and I know it would be outstanding, but since I'm getting lessons, should I wait a bit longer?

Hey JH,

The pack would still be an asset because you can use it at home in your own time, as an addition to your lessons. I would say take your $100 and get new heads. Since you can do a payment plan on the packs, see if you can swing that somehow (make a deal with your parents, allowance money, whatever). I look at it this way: If I don't like the way my kit sounds, I don't want to play on it anyway, so make yourself happy that way first. The RDS is an invaluable tool, no matter how you use it.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think I can get any more money from my parents, they have done a ton for me recently. They helped pay for the drums and have spent a lot of money for my new computer. I also don't get an allowance, so that's out of the question. When it comes to heads, I'm afraid to buy because I don't know much about them (even after a ton of research) and I don't want to buy and end up not liking them much. My cymbals don't sound half as bad with my earplugs in compared to when they are out, so cymbals can definitely wait a little bit. The only thing that I'm confident on buying would be the RDS.

I want to add a few comments about the RDS pack. I purchased the RDS pack for my beginning nephew. I wanted to be able to find a way to teach him to play, since I am in a different country. He received the package and has since reported the ease of use, quality and teaching style that Jared uses suits his needs.

After reading through the materials and watching the entire DVD set, he felt compelled to start right at the beginning and has stuck with it and now is preparing for his intermediate book. He is very happy with the workbooks and quality of the package overall.

I want to suggest a slight upgrade to the package. I feel that a special features or as part of the training program, a section walking new drummers through some tips and tricks to help keep them motivated and learning the secrets and language of the drum world. I would recommend this package to anyone who is wanting to learn the drums from the comfort of their own home or practice studio.
We are the heartbeat.....

Hank,
Since you play with earplugs (good on you), it doesnt seem like a change in heads is going to be that big a deal. Keep studying cymbals and heads, listen to them in person, then drop the cash when you KNOW what you want.
RDS is great. I don't know your level of proficiency, so its hard to know if its the best match for you - but probably. My only other thought is my teacher kept me so busy with his exercises, I couldn't practice anything else if I wanted to keep up and take full advantage of my lesson $$.

Although the earplugs make the cymbals sound a bit better, the overtone and pitch of the heads is disgusting. All of the toms blend in when I hit them because of all the overtone, and I can't stand it. I'm just starting out drumming (I guess I'm a fairly advanced newbie since I knew a good amount from the school band), so I'm sure that the RDS would be good for me. I'm still not so sure what I should do as of now. I would like to spend my money on new heads, but then I'm afraid I'll be missing out on a great experience with the RDS. But then, if I buy the RDS, I won't feel as motivated because my drums sound bad. Now, I think my best bet may be to wait for another sale on the RDS (which probably won't be for a while), and then spend the leftover money on new heads.

Thanks for the help, guys

PM= Private Message

The controls for that are on your personal page, or you can go to the person's page, and under their personal pic is a drop down menu with several options.

for that answer, you will have to wait to hear from Jared, Rick or Dave. They usually will make an announcement when it happens.
