  • Where are you from (country, or more specific)?
  • How long have you been playing the drums?
  • Did you take lessons, or are you self-taught?
  • Do you play any other instruments (which ones)?

I'm from a small town named Windemere in BC, Canada. I've been playing drums about 5 years and am self taught, save the stuff from FDL. I also play guitar and bass and I really want to get into turntables.

Im from denmark

I have been playing drums for about a year, but have been playing guitar for 17+ years

I play guitar in the black metal band Ulm

http://www.myspace.com/ulmband

Ulm

When i started being interested in music i wanted to play drums but my parents thought it would be too loud so i got a guitar instead - which im still fond of playing by the way, but after having played around with a spare kit at our rehearsal room i finally got myself together to get a kit for my self and learn it thoroughly.

I have had no real lessons but have nagged christian our drummer and a few other friends for advise and tips.

Hope to get my chops up to a decent level so i can find a death metal band to play with in a few years

Hey everyone,

My name is Shau and I'm from Markham, Ontario (near Toronto). I've been playing the drums for, let's say, two years now. I took about 10 lessons and decided to switch to Railroad Media products instead. I found that on the drums a lot of it is self-taught and comes with practice. Later on, when I'm more advanced, I'll go see a teacher to learn some trade skills.

I'm primarily a guitarist and actually run my own private teaching business. I just have a love for the drums as well. The products that Railroad Media has come out with have been outstanding and I am a loyal, repeat customer. Great job! Pleased to meet the rest of you.

I'm from Israel, Iv'e been playing the drums for 4 months. I take every week one hour lesson but I'm also learning from Youtube and FDL.
for now I play only the drums but after I will establish myself, I would probably learn to play the guitar too.

Hello from Florida! I've been banging around on the drums for about 6 years, though I've only recently started learning how to play the drums for real for about 2 years. If you consider serious practice... about 1 year. I do not play any other instruments and I've not taken any lessons (or even played along with other musicians, I guess I've been a closet drummer thus far). It wasnt until I had a piano major as a roomie in college that I really started getting into the drums because I never really understood counting time or time signatures or any musical theory at all before he took the time to educate me. Before him, I thought a triplet was 3 hits on one drum in a row lol - had no idea it was an actual count. Teaching myself to play has been a lot easier since, and playing has been much more fulfilling.

I'm from Philadelphia PA. I've had my drums for a year now, but don't have alot of time to practice due to work and neighbors. I am Mostly Self taught, apart from websites like this one, YouTube.com, and my father in law who used to play in a band in the 80's. I tried to play the guitar before the drums, but could never get really into it, so I got my drums, and LOVE THEM. :P

1) Hi, I'm from a town called East Kilbride in Scotland.

2) Just starting. Bought my first kit yesterday, and so been driving my husband mad since

3) I have been using FDL to read through all the basics and get started. I will be taking lessons though (I figured that at the age of 34, I need all the help I can get)

4) No other instruments, though will have a shot at the guitar at some point. Drums first though.

Hi and Merry Christmas!
1) I'm from Cincinnati, OH.
2) Been drumming for a couple months. Play bass for my church and we kept losing our drummers to graduation (they all've been high schoolers). One practice session, just for kicks, got on the set ant played. Hooked then and there. Then googled drum lessons and found this place. Then got the practice pad and metronome and sticks. Then stumbled on a great deal on a used kit (with the blessing and infinite patience of my wife) Then....
3) Self-taught, FDL and another site, DVD
4) Play bass guitar, acoustic guitar. Also sing (the human voice, the most versatile and portable instrument  In the past, played piano and in the prehistoric past, saxophone.

-Hey all, I'm from Kitchener Ontario Canada
-I was given a beginner kit last christmas because I've always wanted to learn, but didn't really play much due to some home construction and stuff.
-Trying self taught with the help of this website, some DVD's, and a few friends that play. Might take some lessons just to learn some proper techniques from the start.
-Played Clarinet back in highschool, probably wouldn't know what to do with it if I was handed one now.

Thanks FDL, I'm sure I will be on your site dailey for the next while.

cheers.

How long have you been playing the drums? Started playing 7 months ago on a Mapex Pro M Series drum set

Did you take lessons, or are you self-taught? I started taking 1 hour lessons and have bought everything that RailRoadMedia sells.....excellent stuff!!!

Do you play any other instruments (which ones)? Electric Guitar
