I just want to get to know everyone here a little more. So, here are some questions to help everyone introduce themselves.
  • Where are you from (country, or more specific)?
  • How long have you been playing the drums?
  • Did you take lessons, or are you self-taught?
  • Do you play any other instruments (which ones)?
  • Do you have a kit? If so tell us a little about it.

I'll answer myself to get things started.

I Norwegian, have been playing the drums for just over two years, and am mostly self-taught. I used to play a little guitar, but am only playing the drums now.

I've lived in the US my entire life, born in the Chicago area and now live in Texas (yes, it's different here).

Only been playing the drums for a year or so now and it's my only instrument. Self taught except for websites like this helping.

I am from BC, Canada.

I have been playing drums for almost 11 years now.

I took lessons for the first 4 or 5 years...then I took spot lessons with different teachers.

I dabble in piano...wouldn't ever call myself a pianist, but I love to play.

I hail from ye grand ol' San Diego California. A lovely city with even lovelier girls. :)

I've been playing drums for a little under a year now. Dreamed of being a drummer when I was a kid, could never afford a kit though.

I haven't taken any lessons, but soon will be. I met this guy named Randy at Guitar Centers Drum Off competition. Turns out he was drumming for a band playing at the original woodstock. The guy is amazing. He also plays with his hands.

Other instruments... well I play kazoo pretty well. haha. I do vocals sometimes. I might be picking up bass guitar soon. Figured it would help with drumming if I did.

Great thread Norwegian007,

I'm from the Vancouver Area (Canada), have been playing drums for around seven years (took weekly hour-long lessons for the first 3 years), and play a little bit of Guitar and Bass Guitar (just enough to play basic songs and understand their roles within a band).

I am from Bogota, Colombia.

I am mostly self-taught, but I am taking lessons. The lessons are more for correcting habits and learning things that I normally would overlook (such as traditional Colombian music drumming).

I know just enough piano, trombone (percussion section was full in my middle school band, so I took something else because I wanted to be in the band), bass and guitar to play simple songs and, as Rick said, to understand their roles within a band. The better you understand another instrument the better you can compliment it (and it can compliment you) when you play with a band. I attempt to sing every once in a while, but mostly backup.

1) USA

2) Almost 1 and 1/2 years.

3) I take a general percussion class in school.

4) Mostly mallets, but a little piano and also a little guitar. In addition, I did take trumpet for six months in sixth grade as a requirement for percussion, so I know a little trumpet.

Hi everyone. I'm from Seattle, WA and have lived here pretty much my whole life.

I have been playing drums and seriously working at it for about 6 months now.

I have been self-taught, and have taken full advantage of the free lessons on here, which by the way have helped a lot and shown how much I can work towards.

I started in music on the trumpet, and still play in an Army Reserve band in Seattle.

Hi everyone!

I´m from Honduras and I´m just starting with this whole drumming thing. I´ve always loved music but I never had the opportunity to learn how to play any instrument.

I hope to succeed on this one.

I'm from Miami, Fl.

I bought my kit and set it up in the living room as a prank on my mom. An expensive practical joke but it was so worth the expression on her face when she came home. After a couple of weeks I thought just letting them sit there would be waste so I got a teacher and started taking lessons. That was a little over a year ago and I'm lovin it.

Already answered, I take lessons.

I pick up my bass and guitar every now and then but there are certainly better players than me.

My name is Steve, I'm from Colorado, USA.

I've always loved drums and would always pat my hands to music, which doesn't really count as playing. I've been practicing on my pad for a few months now.

I don't take lessons, but I've learned a LOT from this website

I played the bass guitar for 5+ years, but I finally realized that I really want to be a drummer. Hey at least I'm staying in the rhythm section!

Hi!

My name is Gareth and I am from Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

I started learning to play drums in 2000, but I've played rather infrequently over the years, due to not having access to a kit. Last year I bought myself a "practice pad" kit. This is quite nice, because I can practice without driving the neighbours insane! ;)

A couple of friends taught me the basics. I'm using Jared's Rock Drumming System to develop and grow as a drummer. I highly recommend this set.

I enjoy playing the piano and guitar as well. I'm mostly self taught, with one or two lessons here and there. I play musical instruments purely for relaxation.

Cheers!
Gareth

Hi, My name is Horia and i'm from Romania. I started to play almost a year and a half ago. Mostly self-though, but like all the people here I've had the chance to study from a number of great players on the Internet.

I don't play anything else (drumming is hard enough to get right imho - to sound as good and as "natural" with them as the people who do this for a living), but I'd like to try out the guitar or bass guitar sometime in the future.

Btw. do you guys play in any bands?

Greetings from Croatia.
I've been actively playing drums for over a year now, but have had some previous experience with this instrument. I've picked up a few basic tips from more experienced drummers, but I'm self-taught in most areas. Sites like this one have been more than helpful.
I've also played the bass guitar for two years before switching to drums and have started playing the piano several months ago as part of my music theory lessons.
