Hey! So I've been playing a lot recently, and I've developed(on both)ring fingers, callouses. Tonight I got a blood blister. I know that's it's just preference mostly, but am I holding my sticks incorrectly for so much pressure to be on my ring finger? And any suggestion on what to do with the blood blister?
Thanks! ♥

You definitely need to work on relaxing your grip. If you're tensing up, you should just try practicing at a slower speed.

I get calluses on my hands when I lift weights, so I wear padded gloves. Never seen a drummer wearing gloves though...

lots of drummers wear gloves. zildjian, promark, vic firth and probably quite a few other companies make drummers gloves. i dont wear them, i need to feel the stick in my hand

as far as the blood blister; just pop it and put on a band aid

You're probably right about my grip. I think I put more tension on my right hand as well, since that's the finger I got the blister on. I'll have to work on my technique some :) Thanks for the tip!!! :)

Dude.... I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I've got callouses on all my fingers, the biggest ones are on my ring fingers and my pinkies. As far as blisters go, that's just part of drumming. I get them all the time. When I get blisters, I just poke them with a needle. I don't tear or rip them off because then you have raw skin there and it burns. So anyway...... Hope this helps and God Bless!!

I think I may know what your problem is. I had this problem for a while. You are probably using the wrong sticks for your hands. They may be too big or too small.
I used sticks that were too big for me for a while and I would always get blisters. So I started to use smaller sticks. My blisters disappeared straight away, even while playing with the smaller sticks and I have not had one callouse since. You should give it a try.
Btw, this is my first post :)

I got callouses & blisters when I first started playing. Then I watched a few "how to hold drumsticks" videos (here and elsewhere on youtube). Since then they've all disappeared (the callouses and blisters, not the videos :P). Now I just have a very slight thickening on the pads of my thumbs and the first joint on my fulcrum finger.

This happens to me all the time when I drum for a long time. I mostly play Thrash Metal so it's really no surprise this happens but I rip'em off and put a bandage over the 2nd layer of skin. I recommend gloves... Preferably these:http://www.amazon.com/Zildjian-P0823-Drummers-Gloves-Large/dp/B0002D0Q0O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1OK6K4AFMK7UK&colid=3SK28V1OQIZXA, http://www.amazon.co...d=3SK28V1OQIZXA, and http://www.amazon.co...=3SK28V1OQIZXA. The Promark ones look sick but the Zildjian ones work best. hope that helped

I have a thick wedding ring thats made of Tungsten and it destroys my hand when i play. The stick doesnt have to hit it hard its just the skin getting pinched between the ring and stick when i crash or hard rim shots. I take the ring off and put it on a chain. so if you have a ring on that finger you might have the source of your blood blister right there. But even still blisters and callouses are the nature of the beast. Dont expose your skin but pop it and keep on truckin

Short of removing rings, monitoring your grip (does it only blister when your playing certain patterns/styles etc) or trying gloves/tape you may well just have to chalk this one up as an occupational hazard, Carry lots of plasters/band aids/med tape and rock on my man rock on :D
