Hi guys,

Cobus Potgieter made an awesome cover of Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars a few months ago. I can't watch it in my country (copyright <_< ). Can someone help me? All you have to do is to download the cover () from Youtube downloader or whatever and give me the file. I'll very appreciate your help :)

Thanks in advance!

I think Cobus is way to overrated just like Travis Barker

He's just a kid who has fun with drumming, and lots of people think he's a good drummer. How is that the definition of overrated? Travis Barker is overrated. . . Cobus isn't.

Keep your cool man. I know he's your friend but is no good for business.

1: Cobus is young.
2: Cobus is different than your typical successful drummer.

I used to think the same thing because of one thing: envy. Then I started being objective. Cobus is simply embracing the times and has become successful because of it. Instead of going the traditional way of trying to get a record deal or become a session drummer he's using technology to propel himself forward. Is he overrated? The best answer I can give is I don't know. I'm not a competent enough drummer to judge his skills. Is he famous, yes.
On the other hand there are people that are famous for lesser things. Also I don't know if he has written music that's worth listening to or not. I don't know if he will ever play something I like. I can tell for sure sure one thing. I haven't found a cover he's made of a piece of music I like. But that is just a matter of taste. For some people he has credibility for some other people he doesn't and I think it is because of how different he is. I would dare to say that in the community that is related to the age range and generational differences.

On the other hand, I've watched the videos you've made with him and to be honest you DO look star struck when filming these things. I thought it was weird at first but it also means there must be a reason for it. I know Cobus is in the drum channel and that he's riding his wave of fame. After all, it is HIS reality and he created it. That much he has earned and should be respected for.

Still, I don't like the music he plays and I haven't been convinced of getting his method even though I've been interested in the past. But I simply don't like the music he plays. That doesn't mean he's overrated. It simply means so far I don't like what he plays.

lol What I said totally came out wrong... I meant to say that I don't like Cobus because I dislike his taste in music. I compared him to Travis Barker because they are both pretty well known which is sorta like being overrated... Travis Barker sucks (No doubt about it). I am not a complete metalhead but he covered a lady Gaga song... C'mon... But love him or hate him he is pretty creative. And Jared? What the falk dude? ever heard of an opinion? lol but seriously my previous comment came out wrong... sorry for the upset... I thought you guys would take the comment as more of a joke or something

That's exactly my opinion on Cobus. You have to take into consideration Cobus has helped Jared with his company and that makes it a sensitive subject.
I also say I don't know because if I knew drumming more I could break down what Cobus is doing and say whether or not he can play what I like to hear and play from what he actually plays.

Cobus sells his videos through drumeo.com man. You're probably talking about Jared's best friend or at least a guy he admires and maybe even idolizes a lot. You can see it. It's obvious on all their videos.

Is this going to become a "Tommy Lee" thing?

Cobus is good at what he does. I don't think that Jared "idolizes" him, Jared is a way better all-around drummer than Cobus.

I certainly wouldn't call him a great drummer. To be honest, I wouldn't even say that he's very good. He is good at what he does.

I'll admit that Cobus was one of my motivators when I started drumming. The team on FDL.com were my other motivators. I think he's very good at what he does and so is everyone else. Over-rated...maybe. The best...of course not. I like watching his covers, as well as, watching the covers of other drummers.

He actually just covered a metal song (august burns red - divisions) and it shows his variety in style and taste in music.

August Burns Red is actually pretty cool but I'd like to see him cover some 1984 Thrash Metal like Megadeth's Chosen Ones of their first album; Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good
