I just replaced my snare drum head with a Remo Emperor X and it is ringing and buzzing a lot. Anyone know how to fix this?

You mean you replaced the batter head, and not the snare side head. Right?
. There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Assuming you meant that you changed the batter side head I will say first check your tuning to make sure it is tuned properly then mess around with the snare wires to see if that helps and once you have those the way you want them if the problem is still occuring I would experiment with a little bit of muffling
How can you be yourself when you don't know who you are?

Try muting it with drum gum or by tapping some toilet paper wadded in a ball on the snare head, it actually works pretty well

I had the same problem after my first attempt at tuning. A few more attempts later and the ringing/buzzing was *mostly* gone. A piece of gaffer tape got rid of the rest.
It also seems to depend where you hit the drum. I got much less ringing when I hit right in the center than even an inch or two towards the sides.
It makes sense if you imagine the drumstick as a stone and the head as the surface of a pond. When you hit in the center, all the ripples will bounce off the sides at the same time and meet back in the center. When you hit towards the sides (or if the head is unevenly tuned), the waves will be bouncing around in different directions at different speeds interfering with each other.
The buzzing is just a side-effect of the ringing. The ringing vibrates the reso head which hits the snares.
