I get sore in my Shoulder Blades for playing drums, but I wanted to see if this happens to anyone else.

You shouldn't get sore any place, unless you are doing something wrong.

number 1 I just relized the poll part of the topic is useless and number 2 my posture is fine (If that matters) but I might be keeping my shoulders to tight... (If that matters)so...

Posture matters over the long run. The shoulders and arms should be loose and only really come in to play when moving around the set. Everything else is wrists and fingers, that's where the speed is at.

Probably posture and maybe your even holding the sticks too tight? In my early days i know i did. Do some warm up excercises before you start a session as it can be a bit like a workout. Try to relax whilst your drumming try to make yourself comfortable at the kit and get rid of any unneccesary movement like cymbals too far away, check your grip and and enjoy the moment B)

You should try to minimize the use of your arms as much as possible, and focus on your wrists. Keeping your arms tight is never a good thing to get used to. A buddy of mine squeezes his arms to try and produce speed, but all its done is completely cease his progress. It may seem like it wont work, but start working your wrists and fingers and soon they will start blazing past your previous ability. The smaller the muscle, the less energy it takes to move, the quicker it tenses, the faster it goes. Hope that helped a little.
Whats the big deal??

I think you meant GROUPS of muscles, not a single muscle works alone.

I use my arms but when it comes to playing fast I tend to use my wrists the most

Due to Hammer Blast, and metal drumming, my left shoulder blade kills every night!

I've thought it over in my head, and I can honestly say I can't fathom how you've hurt your shoulders and elbows. Maybe video yourself drumming and watch yourself, and/or post it on the forums and let others analyze it, because I really don't know how you've managed that...

Yeah I kinda figured that out the hard way
It's kinda embarrassing because I'm not that new to drumming and not knowing this basic stuff is an upsetter so yeah...

So? They're people that have been driving all their lives and they still suck at it. You're still learning, that's all that matters. Those people, aren't.

Yeah, but for my own growth in drumming it kinda hurts my pride... And yeah I am still learning. Learning never ceases

you should try taking a short jog and stretch real good, even if all your techniques are on point not being physically warmed up will make you sore, i did read all the posts but thats what helps me for this problem and i been playing the instrument for over a decade

I stretch for 20 to 25 if the drumming is gonna be intense. I stretch pretty much every involved muscle and joint, from the feet up to my neck.
