I used to play in socks. I switched to tennis shoes when I got into double bass. For what ever reason it made it loads easier. Then from there I switched to skater type shoes and now I'm trying to learn to play in my new pair of boots. They way I figure it is that if Lux from youtube can play death metal in heels. I can learn to play my music in boots.

I can defently play faster and more consistant with out shoes on my double bass, but it sucks when you get a massive bruze from kickback.

I can't play without shoes. But I play my kick a lot more intense than most people. And then add the fact that the pedal is cold metal, and what not. And last of all (no offense to those who do it.) But I think playing drums in just socks looks really dorky.

I usually wear chuck taylors, but I also have other light shoes I used when I play.
Cat's Foot; Iron Claw; Neurosurgeons scream for more; innocence @#$%^ with napalm fire; everything I want I really need.

I play mainly socks as I take my shoes off at home, but I can play all three just as well as each other so I don't really think about my footwear.

Socks, I play double bass and have a 3 legged hi hat stand, so shoes are too big to fit between the hi hat pedal and legs.

I usually play with socks mostly because I don't wear my shoes in my house, but I get enough practice outside of my house with my shoes on that I can play either way without any problems.

Has anyone seen those weird shoes with the toes on them? I always wondered if those would be good for drumming with since it's part like playing with shoes and part like playing barefoot since your feet still maintain most of their freedom to move.

I wear the "hospital" type socks with the little rubber non-slip dots on the bottom, comfortable and also helps keep my feet from sliding up the pedal...

Interesting thread. For me. When I play live I play with shoes. For practice; I play in socks just because I never have my shoes on at home.

Must be hard to keep on time, playing double bass, then quickly putting your shoes on to play the hi hats. . . . . . . . :P lol. -_________-

The joke wasnt thought out too much when i wrote it.
