Hi All,

In my 3months of drumming I've found that my grip still needs improvement (I use matched)

Thus far I've tried 2 sticks:

ROCKN
http://www.google.co...ved=0CDkQ8wIwAw

5BN
http://www.google.co...ved=0CGIQ8wIwAA

Is there any stick (from any brand) that has a girth and length size in between those two?

Many thanks in advance!

I think the HD9 is worth a shot.

That's how I got those two pairs. Problem was that time I didn't bring my previous ones.

I did check the story behind the creation by Mike Johnston and the russian guy, they're in between 5A and 5B... 5B feels like the 5A felt like for Mike Johnston.. So it would have to be something in between 5B and 2B....The ROCK Vic Firth are ok but they're too long.

I use a Vic Firth SD9 Driver all maple stick which is .617 x 16 1/4" and I use a new Ahead grip tape on every pair, they are awesome, meaty, and faster and lighter than hickory and last longer. I dig em! :D

I use the Firth 5A's (which I have broken several pairs so far) , but I use the X5A "grips" now...really like those, helps keep the stick in my hand, the other 5A's would slide down and I'd wind up with maybe an inch of the stick in my hand halfway thru the song....lol

I was looking at Vic Firth Cataloge yesterday, aren't the HD9 .610 x 16/14?
From what I read the SD9 and the HD9 are the same?

AM I wrong?

5A are around .500 whereas 5b are in the closer to .600 side...5B are TOO small for me.

Your Grip Idea MIGHT be what I've been needing though. Thanks!!!

Same size and tip. SD = maple / HD = hickory

My bad, seven thousandths off on the thickness, I don't think you would feel that anyway :D oh btw they are 16-1/4" long, not 16/14, 16/14 would actually be 1-2/14", which would be a real short stick,, hard for single stroke rolls.lol, just messin man, thanks for the correction, it is an awesome stick!!!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction I might look at the SD7 Whacker or the SD10. I just need to find a store that has them.
