I believe the term Black Friday was actually coined after the depression. It's the Friday after all of the banks crashed, and due to that all of the prices in stores dropped. I believe this originally happened on a Tuesday, but the media managed to switch it up because more people can go out on a Friday morning at 5am and buy stuff than on a Tuesday.
