Hey guys, I'm interested in moving my acoustic kit onto a rack to provide more flexibility with positioning. Can anyone who previously or currently has their kit on a rack please let me know what kind of rack they have and what they like/dislike about it. Thank you.
Issues I'm most concerned with:
Stability
Upgradability
Size/Space

Hey
Well yrs back I had a Pearl 503C, and what can I say Im more of a stands guy I realized that after I noticed the rack first kill the esthetics of the drums (color), also couldn't get the toms (10 & 12) as closed as I wanted them without messing the position of my cymbals, was a hussle to carry it around IMO and I just didn't feel comfortable w it.
That was my experience, now days I got about 5 stands and probably 3 arms and the kit looks great Im happy w the setup and the way it looks
Now in regards to ur issues now looking at a rack for its functionality:
Stability: it will be solid
Upgradability: I would say u can't go wrong w Pearl and Gibraltar
Size/Space: it depends if u get only a front rack or 2 sided or 3 sided a large rack would take a good chunk of space if I had a rack and tried the setup below I would only be able to do a front rack

I use a Gibraltar rack on my Frankenkit. My acoustic kit uses stands (virgin bass). Personally, I like stands better. They have a little more cluttered look and are slower to set up, but since I don't gig or move my kit, the latter isn't an issue. What I like better about stands is positioning. A rack can still have limitations since it is linear (or curved or a 'V'). It limits your ability to fully adjust each tom individually. I'm fairly neutral on the looks of a rack. Sometimes I think they look OK (not great) but most of the time they seem a little too industrial and detract from the "musical instrument look" of our beautiful wooden drums.
. There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

I guess you're right, a set of stands probably provides optimal flexibility.

Gabralter is the way to go. Absolutley rock solid with infinite amount of customization and maneuverability. They have different options available for people with space issues like the "stealth" line and if you can think it, they they probably make it. You should go check out their videos on youtube, im sure after that there would be no doubt in your mind what rack company your gonna choose.
Whats the big deal??
