Recently almost ALL topics are being created in the General Drumming Forum - many no way belong there. These include topics on selecting cymbals, metronomes, off the wall topics, and links to other resources/websites.

Please remember we have sub forums for drum gear, off topic stuff, classifieds and other resources, as well as DL.com feedback. Use your best judgement and try to create topics in the appropriate forum. I don't know how many new topics we've had in the last week, but I feel like I've moved at least 20 of them.

Thanks for helping. Back to your regularly scheduled programming... Posted Image

On a similar note, you should consider merging the 10,000 threads we have entitled, "What cymbals should I buy?"

We not only consider it but used to do it. Personally (speaking for me only), it feels like a lost cause. New topics are created for cymbals, pedals, how to speed up my left hand/foot, what kit to get - all faster than I can keep up with them. We've asked for forum searches to be used since members can find threads that cover almost any topic. I think people just like to have their own topic viewed and replied to.

I'll look around and see what I can do on a few of the most common questions, but it is a huge job. :o

-EDIT-

I'm not going to merge old topics. The results end up being very confusing. All posts are put in chronological order. Where the OP's aren't quoted, most responses make no sense - everything is jumbled together. If moderators get to new topics quickly enough, going forward they can be merged, but going backwards makes a mess of things.

The better solution is still for members to use the search feature and post in the correct sub-forum.

Agreed, the optimal solution is for users to be more responsible about their posts, rather than having moderators bang their head on the keyboard for the rest of their lives.

Keep up the good work, Poco!

Potentially stupid question: How exactly do I search the forums? It's probably super-obvious, but I'm not seeing it.

When in a forum list of topics, the search is in the bottom left. For some reason, when in a topic, the search moves to the lower right. I appreciate you asking. :)

I see... you have to be in a particular forum for the search box to show up. I was at the primary listing of all the forums trying to search everything... no dice!

Thanks!

It might help a little bit if you asked the admins to put a search box somewhere easier to find, you have to go to a forum section and scroll down to the bottom. I was looking for it the other day and couldn't find it
It should be up at the top on every page, or at the very least on the index too.

The search box could have a picture of Jared above it, pointing to it. ;)
Music is just a theory, with some gaps.
