I think the correct answer would be whatever way you can get more rebound.

i use finger for rudiments on a single piece od drum or cymbal.
I use wrist and finger with small forearm motions when playing beats.
I use wrist and forearm when moving on my kits.
I use wrist and forearm with little motion of moving my whole arm.
I sometimes use my hand to directly hit the kits too. LOL
I dont think a person can only use one part of his hand to play drums LOL`

Or you want a big sounding back beat.

If you don't put a hole in the head, you are probably hitting them OK.

I use hit my drums really hard so my toms are full of holes... I bought a DDrum kit and I like it a lot but I couldn't get rid of my Coda Drum kit with holes in it... That drum kit stuck to me...

Honestly, with trying to hit your drums really hard (on purpose) I think the same principal that applies for cymbals applies for drums. Hitting a bit harder is okay, but hitting alot harder doesn't change the sound much more, or makes it worse, and in the ong run, you're only doing more DAMAGE to the drum. So, I think a good rule of thumb is: If you're forcing the power you exert while hitting your drums, you're hitting too hard. There's a difference between hitting to get a full sound and hitting to just try and be loud.
Favorite Made-Up Quote: You can say something a thousand times, but that doesn't mean it's written in stone.
The Lesson: Don't believe everything you hear from somebody, especially when their conduct disproves it.

Only if you're not use the fulcrum. using only the wrist will cause injuries in the long term.

Not only to the drum, but to yourself.

most certainly a situation dictates sort of topic. if i am playing a quiet acoustic set i will use mostly finger work with hot rods, where as in a larger venue and i can use all the different tools in my toolbox. how ever the individual warning of using stabilizing muscles to do all the work, it will end in tears so to speak.
